Join us in conversation with Donato (Dominic) Raimondo, a former Lost Boy of Sudan, as we discuss his preservation activities and his vision for empowering his community.

Donato Raimondo is a former Lost Boy of Sudan, one of some 16,000 orphaned young men who fled their villages in South Sudan during the civil war, walking hundreds of miles to the borders of Ethiopia and Kenya after rebel armies attacked their homes. He spent 10 years in a Kenyan refugee camp before resettling in the United States.

Since his arrival, Donato has devoted himself to sharing and preserving his cultural traditions. He teaches Didinga dance, creates clay bull figurines, and performs bull songs and warrior songs in schools and communities across the country.

Today, his commitment continues through efforts to safeguard endangered traditions. He envisions building a cultural center in his home village—anchored by a traditional house—where community members can cultivate their talents in beadwork, clay work, and the practice of traditional dances and songs.
