The Association for Cultural Equity (ACE) does not directly administer rights to the Alan Lomax Collection and the contents of the Lomax Digital Archive. Various parties (record labels, book publishers, estates and other rights holders) share administration of the music, film, published writings, video and photograph collections. ACE strives to make the collection more accessible for both educational and commercial uses by connecting users with the correct rights-holders.
For questions about the commercial use of any music, film, writings, or photography in the Alan Lomax Collection and the Lomax Digital Archive, please contact permissions@culturalequity.org.
For questions about educational or institutional use of materials or regarding Alan Lomax Archive loans and permissions requests, please contact nathan@culturalequity.org.
Since it’s inception in 1983 ACE has proactively sought out the estates of artists recorded by Alan Lomax. The estates of performers and arrangers/composers receive fees and royalties from licensing and sales. ACE shares estate contact information with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress where the Alan Lomax Collection is housed.
For information or updates regarding artists and their estates please contact kiki@culturalequity.org.
